MRS. TIEL AT REST

Mrs. Mary H. Tiel died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Katie T. Griffith, last Saturday morning, after an illness of several months, aged 80 years. She is survived by a son, William Tiel, of Philadelphia, and two daughters, Mrs. Griffith and Miss Nellie Tiel. She was much respected among the people with whom she became acquainted while residing with her daughter here, as well as in her Philadelphia home.

​The funeral was hell in the Congregational Church in this village on Tuesday afternoon, and the remains were taken the following morning to Philadelphia for interment. The funeral sermon was delivered by Rev. H. Clay Searles of Washer Palls, N. Y., a former pastor of this church, from the text, “He giveth His beloved sleep.” Rev, W. A. McIntire, the present pastor, read the scripture selection and invoked the benediction, and Rev. P. A. Bradford, his immediate predecessor as pastor here, made the opening prayer, supplemented with a few remarks appropriate to the occasion. Mr. John B. Stearns and assistant of Rutland had charge of the funeral arrangements, and Mr. Stearns accompanied the body to Philadelphia. The casket was heavily banked with evergreens and flowers were placed upon it. The body remained in the church till morning, when it was conveyed to the railroad station in Undertaker M. C. White’s funeral car, and accompanied by the sorrowing relatives left for Philadelphia on the 6.35 a. m. train. The bearers were Messrs. Eugene McIntyre, E. J. Read, Barney Decker, L. H. Cook, James Porter and David Parker.
