William H. Riddle of Brookline, Mass., Dies. Formerly Lived Here and Was Son-in-Law of Late S. L. Griffith

Word has been received in Rutland the death of William H. Riddle, aged 58 years, of Brookline, Mass., a former well known resident of this city. The body will be brought to Rutland on the Boston sleeper Thursday morning and taken to the Tossing undertaking rooms, and will be taken on the 10:35 o’clock train Thursday morning to Danby where the funeral services will be held.

Mr. Riddle was born in Tennessee, November 1, 1862, and was engaged in the mercantile business at Washington, D. C., for several years. He was married about 29 years ago to his present wife, Mrs. Jennie Griffith Riddle, daughter of the late Silas Griffith of Danby, one of the well known lumber dealers of the state. He was employed for four years by the late Mr. Griffith in the lumber business at Danby, when he moved to Rutland and organized his own lumber company. He moved from Rutland to Boston about 13 years ago and was one of the large lumber dealers of that vicinity, having large interests in Maine and along the Lawrence river.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter. Miss Marion Riddle, and one son, Griffith H. Riddle, all of Brookline, Mass.

Mr. Riddle was a member of several Masonic societies, the B. P. O. E., and several clubs in Brookline, Mass., and Boston. He was a member of the Rutland Country Club when he resided here.
