DEATH OF SILAS L. GRIFFITH.
Dies at San Diego, Cal, After a Long Illness.

Word was received at Danby about 6 o’clock yesterday morning of the death of Silas L. Griffith of that place, which occurred at 5 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at his winter home, “The Palms,” at San Diego, Cal. Mr. Griffith had been ailing for more than two years with an unusual form of skin disease, which finally resulted in his death. He had been under the care of the most noted specialists on skin diseases in the country, but the disease with which he was afflicted is one of those for which no cure has yet been discovered.

​Death Of Harry E Griffith.

After a painful and severe sickness of three weeks, Harry E. son of S. L. and Elizabeth Griffith of Danby died Sunday April 8 [1883]. Although but two months and five days over five years old, he was a remarkably bright and intelligent child. The Immediate cause of his death was a brain difficulty that had slowly followed a protracted illness last fall, since which time the little fellow bad been an almost constant, but patient sufferer.

Danby has topped the county’s three-star honor roll with a four-star record. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall J, Baker of Danby have four sons serving in the army, three of whom enlisted. The fourth volunteered and was rejected, later being accepted in the draft.

Danby, Vt., which is located at the extreme southern part of Rutland county and on the Bennington and Rutland Railroad, is not by any, means the least among her sister towns in the county. The town was granted a charter in 1761, and therefore takes its place among the earliest town organizations in this part of the State.

Fingerling Trout to Be Placed In State Waters.

S. L. Griffith of Danby has notified State Fish Commissioner Titcomb that he will plant in public waters a considerable number of fingerling trout from a supply he is raising at his private hatchery. The trout will be a gift to the public.
