Sen. Griffith of Danby Has Made a Large Addition to His Fish Hatchery and Lumber Industry.

Montpelier, Dec. 1.—Senator S. L. Griffith of Danby, a member of the Legislature of 1898, has just completed the purchase of a very valuable piece of property in Groton, Vt. The J. R. Darling mill, one of the largest in eastern Vermont together with 2700 acres of timber land, and about $3000 worth of personal property used in operating the property have been’ transferred to him and he is now managing the property. The price has not been made public.

The Career of Mr. J. B. Nichols Twice Marked by Extremely Narrow Escapes From Death. – Faced Starvation and other Hardships in Seeking the Yellow Metal.It gives us much pleasure to this week place before our readers the portrait of Mr. Jazaniah B. Nichols, a native and for many years resident of Danby, but now located at Asbury Park, N. J.
The subject of this sketch was born December 22, 1828, and was the eighth of the ten children of Isaac and Abigail (Barrett) Nichols. Of this large family one died in infancy and was buried with the mother, one sister died at the age of twenty-nine, while the remaining eight all passed their seventieth birthday; and four are still living, whose ages range from seventy to eighty-nine years. The father died at the age of eighty-six, but the mother died at the early age of forty-three.

A SUCCESSFUL FARMER.
For More Than Three-Score Years Mr. James Edwin Nichols Has Lived an Industrious Life in the Town of Danby, Honored and Respected by Every One.The face of another member of the noted “Boys’ Club” graces the MIRROR’S first page this week, and it is with much pleasure that we present it and this brief sketch of the gentleman whom it represents to each subscriber, many of them to be filed away with previous and succeeding copies of the MIRROR and handed down to future generations.
James Edwin Nichols was born October 20, 1829, in the town of Hubbardton, Vt., where his parents—Thomas and Hannah Wait Nichols—then resided. When six years of age, however, his parents removed to Danby, and settled on the farm now owned by Daniel Harrington. After residing there for seven years Mr. Nichols’ father purchased what was then known as the Deliverance Rogers farm, situated in the central part of the town of Danby, and where the subject of this sketch now lives.

Hon. S. L. Griffith of Danby, Vt., who is making a tour in the East., is evidently a fish and game leaguer. He has cabled that he has played and won at Monte Carlo and his latest is that he has bathed in the river Jordan and the Dead sea. Next we will hear that he has played a game of bric-a-brac with Edward V two eyes.
