    DANBY, (Wednesday) May 23.—The Ackert hotel, a frame structure in the center of the village, a fern storehouse, a meat market, restaurant and the home of Eli Kelly were leveled by fire early this morning and for a time it was feared that other nearby homes would catch fire.

    Body of S. L. Griffith Has Arrived in Danby from California.
    (Special to the Free Press.)

    Danby, Aug. 2.-The body of the Hon. S. L. Griffith lies in his late residence here awaiting the public funeral which will be held at the Congregational Church on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock. The body arrived here Friday evening, accompanied by Mrs. Griffith and W. H. Griffith, a nephew, The party was met at the station by the immediate family and a few friends.

    Until after the probate of Mr. Griffith’s will nothing concerning the provisions of that document will be given out by those in authority. It is known, however, that Mr. Griffith named; Messrs. Wilbur H. Griffith of this village and George L. Rice, Esq., of Rutland as the executors of his estate.
