    SILAS GRIFFITH IN MEMORIAM

    Absorbed in his business, oppressed by its care,
    He was seized by disease, and sank from it there;
    And being possessed by an unyielding will,
    He sought his physicians—it baffled their
    The best of trained nurses lie sought to obtain,
    Yet, do what they would, their efforts were vain;
    His unyielding nature, that failure would spurn,
    In a far distant land would seek health’s return.

    Hot Old Sport

    ​Hon. S. L. Griffith of Danby, Vt., who is making a tour in the East., is evidently a fish and game leaguer. He has cabled that he has played and won at Monte Carlo and his latest is that he has bathed in the river Jordan and the Dead sea. Next we will hear that he has played a game of bric-a-brac with Edward V two eyes.

    SILAS GRIFFITH FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENT

    ​GRIFFITH—At Palm Hill Ranch San Diego county, July 21st, 1901, Silas L. Griffith, a native of Vermont, aged 66.

    Friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Johnson & Connell’s chapel D and Seventh streets, at 2:30 o’clock p.m. today. Interment at Danby, Vermont.

    MISSIONARY SOCIETY MEETS

    ​The Woman’s Missionary society was entertained on Friday afternoon by Mrs. K. T. Griffith and Miss Emma Rising. There was a good attendance. The president, Mrs. B. J. Griffith, presided. A thank offering program entitled “The Light of the World,” was followed and offering taken up. Rev. W. A. McIntire spoke, touching on both foreign and home missionary work. Victrola selections and a solo by Mrs. L. J. Rabner accompanied by Miss Vera Griffith were part of the program. During the social hour that followed refreshments were served.
